Colorfast: (adj) having color that retains its original hue without fading or running

Indigofera: (n) large genus of plant species belonging to the pea family Fabaceae. Indigofera tinctoria is the species that this text is primarily interested in, and is considered to be “true indigo”. 

Shibori: (n) the Japanese word for different ways of embellishing textiles by shaping cloth and securing it before dyeing. Stems from the verb shiboru, which means “to wring/squeeze/press.”

Woad: (n) Common name of Isatis tinctoria, woad belongs to the flowering plant family of Brassicaceae (mustard), and produces blue dye, and is considered to be less colorfast than Indigofera.
